Policy 5.27 - Campus Security Authorities

Part 1:Ìý Policy

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics ActÌýorÌýClery Act, signed in 1990, is a federalÌýÌýcodified atÌýÌý, with implementing regulations in theÌýÌýÌýatÌýÌý.

The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federalÌýÌýprograms to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses.

The Clery Act requires colleges to designate certain individuals as Campus Security Authorities (CSA).

Part 2: Definitions

The Clery Act is a federal statute that provides the campus community with timely, accurate, and complete information about crime and the safety of the campus so that they can make informed decisions to keep themselves safe.

A Campus Security Authority (CSA)Ìýis an individual, who, by virtue of their college responsibilities and under theÌý, is designated to receive and report criminal incidents to the LSC Safety and Security department. Incidents must be immediately reported so that they may be properly investigated and published in the college’s Annual Security Report. CSA must complete training on how to appropriately handle the reporting of crimes,Ìývictim relations and support, and relatedÌýschool policies.

Part 3:Ìý Authority to designate CSA

The President or designee will designate specific individuals as CSA.
