LSC Instructor Zobel Named FIRST Robotics Volunteer of the Year
Zobel has been an active volunteer at the local robotics event for seven years, taking on various roles, including coordinating the Machine Shop for the past three years.

Machine Tool Instructor Nathan Zobel recently received the Volunteer of the Year award from FIRST Robotics following the Lake Superior Regional at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).

Zobel has volunteered his services in many capacities for seven years at the local robotics event, including coordinating the Machine Shop over the last three years. During this time, the machine shop has consisted of current or former LSC students and other volunteers.

For Zobel, the best part of the event is the teamwork and problem-solving that takes place.

“I enjoy watching all the excitement when teams work together to create their machines,” said Zobel. “It’s fun to assist teams in making parts that help with a specific function on their robot. Many times, it’s a simple conversation with a team member about how a particular part is made and the functionality of it. Sometimes, it results in them going back to the drawing board to rethink the part.”

The Volunteer of the Year Award celebrates the dedication and service of truly outstanding volunteers. The phenomenal success of the FIRST Robotics Competition reflects the commitment and enthusiasm displayed by volunteers.
