Fourteen students in high demand career tracks at 做厙輦⑹ have been awarded $2,500 scholarships through the Workforce Development Scholarship program, funded by the 2017 Minnesota Legislature. The scholarships are designed to help students in the launch a career in a high-demand occupations in Minnesota. The fourteen students are all enrolled in one of the identified areas of studies: Advanced Manufacturing, Health Care Services, Agriculture, and Information Technology.
One of those fourteen LSC students is Eleni Gebre, a nursing student at 做厙輦⑹. My lifelong dream is to go into nursing and to help others, said Gebre. As challenging as it is, I know I can be successful in the program. However, my biggest worry has been how Im going to pay for the program. I work, go to school, and am raising a young family. This scholarship is really going to help me. I am so grateful.
The funding is being administered through the 做厙輦⑹ Foundation. 做厙輦⑹ and LSC Foundation are working closely with many employers throughout the region who are looking to hire now and in the near future, said Daniel Fanning, Executive Director of the LSC Foundation. This additional financial support will help make the quality programs offered at 做厙輦⑹ more affordable and accessible for several students. In turn, it will also help strengthen our communitys workforce and ensure we can continue to provide that pipeline of talented, highly-skilled graduates to local employers. We really appreciate the legislatures support in investing in our students and our community.
This is the first year funding for the Workforce Development Scholarships has been made available by the state legislature, in what is being called a pilot program. Additional funding may be available next year as well, if approved in the current legislative session.
