Welding students from Hermantown, Two Harbors, Proctor, Silver Bay, Denfeld, Mesabi East, and Cromwell high Schools will participate in an annual welding competition on May 3 hosted by °µÍø½ûÇø. The competition will be fierce as Proctor High School has won both the team and individual category for the last three years.
The scored competition involves a  welding team fabrication and individual welding categories. The welding fabrication team makes a project which is judged by how it is fabricated. Individual welding students do GMAW/MIG, SMAW/stick welding, and Oxy Fuel welds plus a written test. Judges will determine winners in each category with an awards ceremony announcing the winners and awarding prizes.
Starting at 8:45 a.m., the students, in groups of six, will rotate through four stations over a period of approximately four hours. Winners announced with prizes start at 1:15 p.m. The event will be held at Lake Superior College’s Integrated Manufacturing Downtown Center, 120 North Second Avenue W., Duluth, 55802.
